Signal | Noise Privacy Policy
Short version: your data never leaves your device.
This policy covers the Signal | Noise app, both the web version (PWA) and the iOS app. It was written by me, Christian Hermansen, the person who makes the app. There's no legal team here, just plain answers.
What the app collects
Nothing. Signal | Noise has no accounts, no sign-up, no analytics, no ads and no third-party services. I never see your tasks, your reflections or anything else you put into the app.
Where your data lives
- Web version: everything is stored in your browser's local storage, on your device.
- iOS app: everything is stored in a local database on your device.
Your tasks, focus sessions, reflections and settings stay there. Delete the app or clear its data, and it's gone. There is no copy anywhere else. One nuance: if your device backs up to iCloud, the app's local data may be included in that backup. That's Apple's standard device backup, controlled by you in your iCloud settings - it never passes through me.
The Pro purchase
The iOS app has an optional one-time Pro upgrade. The purchase is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. I never see your name, email or payment details - Apple only shows me anonymous, aggregated sales numbers.
On-device intelligence
The brain dump feature in the iOS app uses Apple Intelligence, which runs directly on your iPhone or iPad. The text you write is processed on the device itself and is never sent to me or to any cloud service. On devices without Apple Intelligence, the feature simply isn't shown.
Taking your data with you
The iOS app can export everything you've put into it as a single JSON file, which you can save or share wherever you like. The export is generated on your device and goes only where you send it.
Notifications
If you turn on notifications (for finished focus sessions or the daily signal reminder), they are scheduled locally on your device. No notification service is involved.
What I can't see
Everything. I have no servers receiving app data, so there's nothing for me to look at, sell or leak. That's not a promise of good behaviour, it's just how the app is built.
Changes
If a future version ever adds something that touches your data, like optional sync, this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the app will make it clear.
